The Suzuki Method is based on the mother-tongue method of music education as set forth by Shinichi Suzuki. Dr. Suzuki made the seemingly obvious discovery that all Japanese children speak Japanese beautifully - no small accomplishment! He reasoned that if he could teach music the same way children learn a language, they would be able to learn quickly and build a solid foundation of musicianship. Parental involvement is a key factor in the Suzuki Method - parents attend lessons, take notes, practice daily with their children, and encourage them at every step. Parents are also responsible for daily listening, which is another key component of music language development.
Dr. Suzuki's goal was to cultivate beautiful hearts and souls through the study of music. The vision of Dr. Suzuki is carried out by Suzuki teachers around the world; our hope is that the music created by children will make our planet a more beautiful and peaceful place.
